Crickets at health & nutrition fair

Crickets at health & nutrition fair

On Saturday 19 August, at the Health & Nutrition fair organized by Uganda Manufacurers’ Association in Kampala, Uganda, our partner EntoAfrica Ltd presented to the public their novel product BUUKA!

BUUKA is derived from a Luganda-language word which means “Jump!” The brand was chosen to illustrate the highly nutritious properties of crickets which contribute to a healthy, active lifestyle.

20-gram sachets of crickets, combined with either sesame seeds or just chili, were offered. Three-quarters of the public who visited the stall tasted the free sample and went on to purchase at least one sachet each. Some were hesitant to try the product either because they have never consumed crickets before, or because of cultural taboos…but, through more education of product benefits many will be converted to becoming cricket consumers!

With a DJ playing popular music from a large truck calling the public to come have a taste, most visitors were very excited and also proposed other flavours to try out, such as cricket & coriander. Today, the chili flavour was the hot favourite!

One customer who came back to buy more said if more flavours are not introduced soon, competitors will come fill the void. His compliments duly noted, EntoAfrica is already working on new recipes.

The Flying Food team is very proud of this product introduction and looks forward to Buuka! making more people jump with joy.
