Uganda production increases

Masaka Microfinance and Development Cooperative Trust Ltd (MAMIDECOT) is a member-based Savings and Credit Organization (SACCO) and essential partner of Flying Food in Uganda. After the exit of Dutch partners of Flying Food consortium (due to termination of project budgets) Mamidecot managed to continue running the cricket business. This week they acknowledged that performance of farmers is increasing, whereby each week Mamidecot stores produced crickets and supplies them to market. In a rearing cycle for this particular season, the best performing farmer managed to acquire UGX 810,000 after supplying 16.2 kg in a single cricket rearing cycle. This has been possible with support from lead farmers that they appointed to teach the rest of the farmers in the different clusters across the greater Masaka region.  MAMIDECOT has the ambition to scale up this innovation across the greater Masaka region. Many farmers have shown interest in this new agricultural business activity which will increase volumes of crickets being harvested and supplied to the cricket market.
